1. Downloading Problems | Unzipping Errors
Dead / Inactive Link - If, when
clicking on a download link it does not seem to
even attempt a download, try one or more of the
other links provided (if available). If it still
does not seem to attempt download, this may be
a temporary server error or delay. Please try
again in 10 minutes. If the problem persists,
please contact me.
Error message Downloading -
If, when clicking on a download link you have
problems downloading (such as error messages,
page not found, etc.), try moving your mouse over
the download link, right click and choose "save
link as" or the option that most closely
matches this term in your browser type.
Download Times - Time to download
varies per product however we maintain a very
fast transfer for most people, even those on dial-up.
With that said, however, not everyone will be
able to download our products within a timely
manner. If this is a problem, please contact us.
Problems with AOL accounts -
Some AOL users have problems downloading/unzipping
files using their AOL browser. If possible, use
Internet Explorer or Netscape, which solves most
errors.
2. Unzipping Problems
#1 Requirement - You WILL need an unzip utility
to extract files to your computer. A .ZIP file
is a collection of one or more files which have
been compressed into a smaller, portable format.
So, in order to use the files, you need a program
which decompresses the file contents so that you
can view/use them. A good unzip utility is Winzip.
Jumbled Files / Folder Structure
- The #1 problem with unzipping is that the "folder
structure" has not been preserved. What this
means is that your unzip program unzipped ALL
of the files into one folder, instead of keeping
files in their own folders at the time we "zipped"
them up. When the folder structure hasn't been
preserved, all the files are dumped into one folder,
causing some files to overwrite, as well as links
to files not working.
So, How do you preserve the folder structure?
In an unzip program such as Winzip, choose the
"extract" command. A window prompting
you to choose a location to extract the files
to will appear. On that same window in the lower
left hand corner should be 3 small boxes you can
check off. The only one that should be checked
off is "Use folder names". This ensures
that the folder structure remains intact.
These options vary depending on the unzip utility
you are using. If you can't associate the same
command with your own unzip program, please contact
us and we will do our best to help you figure
out the correct settings.
*NOTE* It is recommended that
you create new folders to extract each set of
.zip files to. Do not extract .zip files to the
same folder, or it could cause overwrites.
Invalid Archive / Corrupt Files / Related
Errors - While it is rare, some people
receive an error message when trying to unzip
files (such as: This is not a valid archive, may
be corrupt, etc.) First, make sure that your unzip
utility is functioning properly. Secondly, you
can try downloading and extracting another copy
of the .zip file from another location which we
may have provided you. If we have not provided
an alternative download site for you, please contact
me for one.
Software Conflicts - Another
problem which may affect normal download and unzipping
procedures is if your unzip utility is in conflict
with other programs on your computer. The best
way to test to make sure your unzip utility is
working properly is to try downloading a variety
of programs from different areas (such as tucows).
If you can't seem to get anything to work, then
it is recommended you contact the author of the
unzip software for assistance. We cannot provide
assistance for your unzip and download manager
software.
